Cosmetic Surgery Massage
As with any cosmetic surgery, there are potential risk of side effects such as poor scarring, bruises, and swelling. To minimise these possible results there is a massage technique used for our clients recovering from cosmetic surgery called Lymphatic Drainage Massage (LDM).The benefits of LDMare sure to enable clients to make a smoother transition to a full recovery.
What is Lymphatic Drainage Massage (LDM) Therapy?
In the healing phase following surgery, Lymphatic Drainage Massage is used as a gentle technique, with a rhythmic style of massage that stimulates the immune system and improves the appearance of the skin. LDMis used after surgery, to help speed up healing.
Benefits of Lymphatic Drainage Massage (LDM):
- Reduces pain, bruising and swelling that follow all plastic surgery procedures; especially in the first few days after surgery
- Minimises scar formation, preventing and reducing scar tissue that forms due to the Cosmetic Surgery procedure
- Enhances the action of the immune system
- Improves skin health
- Promotes deep relaxation
- Speeds healing
- Smoothes out irregularities (bumps) that form due to small amounts of fat left unremoved during your liposuction/ smart lipo or abdominoplasty procedure.
Lymphatic Drainage Massage (LDM) Therapy Treatment
- LDMis a series of very gentle, rhythmic massage strokes that increases the transport of lymph flow through the tissues. Every stroke is very light, not as heavy as the strokes of a Swedish massage. The goal of LDMis to reroute the lymph fluid around areas that are blocked and gently move it into areas with healthy lymph vessels where the lymph fluid can drain normally.
- Excessive pressure is undesirable. Each stroke consists of an active phase and a resting phase. During the active phase, pressure is gradually increased, stimulating the skin in a particular direction.
- This is followed by a slow, controlled decrease in pressure into the resting phase. Each stroke is directed towards the regional lymph nodes to stimulate appropriate lymphatic flow. Strokes last a few seconds and are repeated five to ten times in each area. LDMcan be started several days after surgery and a patient can undergo several, to a few, treatment sessions
Lymph Drainage Massage is best suitable for the following procedures:
- Liposuction (lipoplasty)
- Smart lipo (with or without suction)
- Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)
- Upper & Lower Blepharoplasty (eye bags)
- Rhinoplasty
- Facelift
Post Operative Recovery
‘Our comprehensive post-operative service offers an innovative and fresh approach to help ensure you recover quicker’
Your cosmetic surgeon/cosmetic surgery group will give you an instruction sheet explaining what to do and what to steer clear of before you are discharged from the hospital following your cosmetic surgery procedure.
The systematic procedure following your operation is to have your stitches/sutures removed by the cosmetic surgery group’s in house nurse. The nurse will also provide you with additional care and support. The appointment is usually made between 7 – 14 days depending on what procedure you have undergone.
Working alongside Cosmetic Surgeons and Cosmetic Surgery Groups,
We at Connect Physical Health Centre offer an exclusive Post Recovery Programme.
Post Operative Recovery - How it Works
Week 1 ...You, the patient will undergo your Cosmetic surgery Procedure.

Week 3 ... This will be your first session and consultation with us; at Connect Physical Health Centre.
Week 4 ... Your Lymphatic Massage will begin.
Week 5 ... Lymphatic Massage with light exercises

In case of any ill health you should report this straight away to your appropriate and respective Cosmetic Surgery Hospital/Clinic.
“Lymphatic Drainage Massage is a safe treatment post surgery. All patients must be aware that any bruising, swelling and discomfort is a direct affect of the surgery procedure and not of the massage given.”
